Accountability is misunderstood by many. Some people hold accountability like a whip and others don’t hold it at all.
Somewhere in the middle ground is a way to hold accountability so others know you are interested in what they are doing, because that is a great motivator.
Many of us enjoy giving advice. It feels good, solid, comfortable and even rewarding. But if we want to embrace coaching and truly empower others, we need to look at ourselves and stop controlling the conversation.
Rising to the challenge is often seen as a strength which can easily become overused. Maybe it’s a habit, a way of seeking dopamine or getting recognition.
Or maybe you really do need to address the challenge. It’s important to know how to decipher when to say yes and when to say no.
Feedback is challenging for a lot of people and it’s absolutely useless if the feedback isn’t received by the other party.

Tenacity is useful – to a degree. We need to temper it with self-awareness, some discipline and a willingness to change our habits of thinking, lest we end up being resentful of others’ relative “laziness” or we suffer from burnout.
Great conversations are two-way, where both people listen and both have a chance to talk.
WAIT (Why am I talking?) is a useful acronym to keep yourself on point, relevant, staying in THIS conversation and not overloading others with too many words or concepts. Why are you talking? What’s the message? What’s your intention?
