Practice makes perfect. Or not.
Practice helps us improve what we do, but are you practising the right things and improving the way you want?
If there isn’t reflection time and some kind of feedback, you might never know what you could achieve.

When returning from a break away from work, we feel refreshed and reinvigorated. We have more access to creativity, clear thinking and problem solving. We can preserve some of that feeling if we set some boundaries for ourselves and the stressors around us.
Managing stress is an essential part of life these days. And sleep is the number one thing we can do to keep ourselves resilient and capable of managing the difficulties of life (of which there are many!). But the tricky thing is that we have to manage stress enough so we can get that sleep we critically need in order to manage the stressors in life.
Learning stand-alone coaching skills is not enough. Leaders also need to know how to integrate these skills alongside more task-oriented skills like project management.
It’s more complex, but it is possible to do both, despite some people thinking they are either task or people focused.
We are attuned to our expectations; it’s in our brains’ wiring. Anticipation of a positive outcome supplies us with dopamine that motivates and keeps us engaged.
When our expectations are not met, we become disappointed as our dopamine is depleted which robs us motivation and even attention. Along with other chemical changes, this dynamic can lead to despair and disfunction and thus we launch into a downward spiral: mistake, self-criticism, despair, becoming de-skilled leading to more mistakes and down the rabbit hole we go.
We need to adapt our training efforts and learning programmes to meet the current needs of learners.
This will mean more online learning; but let’s not abandon the incredible benefits of learning together.
